Seeing the World One Day at a Time!

Well, I have been here a couple of days and a lot has happened! The first day, a tired Julia picked me up from the airport in Munich and it was really hot outside.  After flying for so long I always feel really gross…eww…anyway….we when into Munich and parked at the football (soccer) stadium and took the train into the center of the city…we came up right by the famous glockenspiel…which we missed because after meeting our froiends we went right for bier and weiss wurst at the famous hofbrauhaus, which was amazing.  Unofrtunently at the time what I didn’t realize was that over the course of a few more days I would soon discover that Ice’s grad school friends from Germany were actually alcoholics…ok..sort of kidding but not..After that we went to the top of the bell tower in the town square and got an amazing view of the whole city.  As we were coming down the bells chimed 6 o’clock and Julia and I looked through a window to see the bells next to us ringing and remember these are HUGE bells.  the whole tower shook.. it was the experience that happens only once and awhile!  We drove home to Salzburg through Bayern and saw the hills turn into mountians and beautiful Salzburg! We were extremely hungary and I was very tired so on a quest to find food we ended up at…oh…yes…bad expensive chinese…I came 1200 miles to eat chinese worse the the village wok. Oh well.  The second day was much less exciting.  We sat outside pretty much the whole afternoon at Katrins Cafe (she works there) and the guys proceeded to drink a lot of bier…me on the otherhand had ice cream and coffee..big surprise! It downpoured so we moved from the outside Cafe indoors and drank more bier…After this we met with Julia and her boyfriend and went to Steigel, the local brewery\ tourist trap but I did have the best weiner snitzel EVER!  And…GASP….more Bier… by this time I have no idea how much they drank, but they weren’t drunk.  So, we went to an irish pub…more bier…and then a dance\bar…more bier and I proceeded to convince Julia to dance…and we were sober!  We headed home at 3 am, only a few blocks with some smelly boys..oh joy.  I was finally figuring out these boys.  The next day we saw a 1000 year old castle on the hill in Salzburg and more bier..and getting lost and going to a gas station for…more bier…(still not drunk) for the party in the alpen cabin that night.  The best part is next. I went to the Germany vs Argentina game in the city center with a giant jumbo tron, it was totally awesome! I got a German Jersey…had my first bier (the boys were on like 5 by then) and watched Germany win with hundreds of other fans!!! Amazing!!! Then we went to Julias friend´s cabin and met all of her friends…and the boys kept drinking.  It was fun at first…but then people kept drinking and I was reminded of being a CA…annoying drunk people, even Julia was annoyed as we were both sober.  The best was when I went outside to use the bathroom, I sank into a bog 1.5 feet deep and was covered with mud at 3 in the morning! AHHH… Julia helped me out and cleaned me off without running water…grrr…I was cranky and wanted to go home, or at least to a real bed.  I tried to sleep upstairs, but then the drunk people went to bed… I mean were loud….so I went downstairs (after the party had went to bed…ther were partying there) and slept.  We went to McDonalds…hmmm…in Europe, and I was so tired I called the 1€ menu the dollar menu…really people…but the best part of the day was to come (even though the boys were STILL drinking!!!!! I want to say NOT ice…just his friends) This drinking was added to by the constant chain smoking and visiting to the cigarette vending machines….Today we went into the alps and walked to the top of a hillside by Julia´s hometown and ate traditional austrian food…and TOOK a shower…and  we let the drinking boys off at the train station! Don´t get me wrong, they were nice…but you get the picture…I needed a break from the chain smoking and drinking!  Well, I am going out for a nice WAlk now, sad that france just won the semi final…..
